But the tough games do not stop for United, as they are back in action this week when they welcome Spanish giants Sevilla in the Round of 16 second-leg of the Champions League this week.

Man United held an open training session on Monday morning before Jose Mourinho spoke to the press.

Mourinho also confirmed that Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo remain out while Ander Herrera is still working his way back to fitness after aggravating a hamstring injury.

"United has to be a team in the Champions League, so that victory was very important for us because we finished outside the top four".

The Portuguese had told reporters on Pogba's possible availability following a win over Liverpool: "I don't know". There were, however, wins against both Malaga and Athletic Bilbao in between that sandiwch of defeats.

Marcus Rashford was exceptional at Old Trafford and should start yet again. Out of the title race, this is United's biggest game of the season so far and it's a must-win.

Had Alexis Sanchez made a better fist of things in the No 10 role, United might have had even more to show for their solid midfield and defensive foundations, in which the return of centre-half Eric Bailly helped to draw outstanding performances from Chris Smalling and Ashley Young.

The Frenchman, who was left on the bench in Seville, missed Man United's 3-2 win over Crystal Palace with what was described as a small knock. Nzonzi has played in 16 out of Sevilla's 17 games since the turn of the year.

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier once declared the only way his captain should leave the pitch before the final whistle away at Manchester United is "on a stretcher". Keep your best stuff for the @FIFAWorldCup this time.

"We have put a lot of planning and preparation into this game with different strategies and ideas on how we can hurt them".

But Montella is confident his side can progress to the semi-finals if they score the first goal of Tuesday's clash. They rarely allowed United any meaningful time on the ball during the first leg and created a number of chances. "We are playing against a team who didn't lose against Liverpool home and away, scored goals at Liverpool and drew the match in Liverpool", he added.

The Red Devils failed to break Sevilla's resistance at Sanchez Pizjuan but also kept a clean sheet, and will believe that they can get the work done at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
