Tone Bell to Star Opposite Nina Dobrev in CBS Comedy

Dobrev has landed the lead role of Clem in Fam, a multi-camera sitcom being developed by CBS.

The show will mark the former "Vampire Diaries" star's first series-regular role since she departed the CW drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Bulgarian-born Canadian actress proven her drama chops on The Vampire Diaries and The Final Girls, while showing off her comedic skills in everything from Lets Be Cops to Workaholics. She will be seen in the upcoming indies Dog Days directed by Ken Marino, Departures opposite Maisie Williams and Asa Butterfield, and Roger Avary's Lucky Day. Shannon will come to live with Clem and her fiancé to escape their dysfunctional father.

Dobrev's character is described to be grounded, funny, witty, outspoken, and real charmer. The show centers on a young woman (Dobrev) who gets engaged to the man of her dreams and gets welcomed into his sophisticated family, but things go south when her trainwreck younger sister shows up. The reintroduction of Shannon into her life proves to upset everything she has built since she moved away from her father, Freddy Banks, and her hot mess of an upbringing. This is a problem for Clem because, in her effort to reinvent her life, she has told love-of-her-life Jay that her father is, in fact, dead. For Clem, he is an embarrassment that is why she needs to lie about his death. Scott Ellis is directing the pilot. In addition to Adlon, Dobrev joins previously cast Brian Stokes Mitchell and Sheryl Lee Ralph. For each of the past two years, CBS has ordered four new comedy pilots to series.
