The fully-refundable €2,500 deposit - around £2,200 - secures a place in line for the Polestar 1 once it is officially released.

Pre-ordering is now available in the following 18 countries: China, United States, Sweden, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada. Applications to buy a Polestar 1 can be made online on the firm's website, with those successful then able to use a configurator to spec the vehicle to their liking before confirming their order.

Polestar hasn't announced the pricing for the Polestar 1, since it plans to offer it via a subscription model, like Volvo's new auto by Volvo program. As well as the cost of the auto, these payments will also cover servicing and give customers the option to rent Volvo vehicles - as well as other future Polestar models.

"With over 7,000 people interested in owning a Polestar 1 since its reveal, we are extremely encouraged by the passion shown for our product".

Set to arrive in mid-2019, the Polestar 1 features an electric drivetrain supported by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 592bhp and 1,000Nm of torque.

This is the first auto to come from the Volvo-owned brand, which was revealed as a spin-off in 2017.

If you want to get one, it would be best to put your deposit down now, since Polestar only plans to build 500 Polestar 1 models a year.
