Again, at 12.30 p.m., the Maoists targeted another team of 212 battalion of the CRPF on Kistaram-Palodi road in Sukma District in which a mine protection vehicle was blown off by triggering an IED [Improvised Explosives Devise]. The injured personnel are being evacuated by helicopter to Raipur.

The rebels used a lot of explosives to blow up the vehicle, the official said.

In a tweet, Mr Singh said, he has spoken to the Director General of CRPF regarding the incident and has asked him to leave for Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh said that he was "overwhelmed with grief" with the loss of the nine officials. "Maoists feared that the development works in Bastar will uproot them from the region, therefore, they committed such a cowardly and shameful attack", he said. I bow to each and every security personnel who attained martyrdom while serving the nation.

He took to twitter and wrote this, "My heartfelt condolences to the families of that person who lost their lives in Sukma blast".

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also condemned the attack and described the incident as "deeply distressing".

Doctors treating the wounded CRPF jawans in Raipur said that the jawans suffered injuries due to the IED blast and not due to any firing. It reflects a deteriorating internal security situation due to flawed policies. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured jawans.

The deceased jawan belonged to the 212 battalion of the CRPF, news agency ANI said.

Twelve jawans were killed on March 11 past year in the Bheji area of the district and their arms looted, when Maoist ambushed their patrol party.

The incident has happened around a year after a dozen jawans were killed in a similar ambush in the district.
