Fifth-placed Chelsea moved to within four points of Liverpool, two behind Tottenham Hotspur - who play Bournemouth on Sunday - in fourth, after a nervy 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in the late kickoff.

But the Italian is hoping to get one over on Mourinho to match Sevilla's best ever run in the European Cup when they reached the quarter-finals in 1958.

Anthony Martial has returned from a thigh injury to add competition and Jesse Lingard, who was on the bench against Liverpool, is also pushing to start.

Alexis Sanchez's arrival has certainly hurt Rashford's chances of making the line-up more often but Mourinho is definitely trying to force him in at any opportunity.

United beat Liverpool at Old Trafford thanks to two first half goals from Marcus Rashford, yet the statistics from the game confirmed that Jurgen Klopp's visitors had dominated most of the key statistics from the game.

Unsurprisingly, Mourinho has not taken too kindly to seeing his methods criticised and has hit back at De Boer, telling reporters: "I read something, some quote from the worst manager in the history of the Premier League, Frank de Boer saying it's not good for Rashford to have a coach like me".

After all the discussion of whether Rashford is fading away under Mourinho at Man United, the Special One threw him a start against Liverpool and he kindly paid him back with a brilliant brace to win the staunch rivalry.

"If he was coached by Frank he would be coached how to lose because he lost every game".

"Normally he's an English player, you want him given time, he can make mistakes".

Do you think Rashford deserves more game time under Mourinho?

Jose Mourinho has been in such a good mood this week he's returned to the jovial banter merchant we all know and love. Marcus I have to be honest and give the credit to the people of the academy that were responsible for his formation and to [Louis] Van Gaal for his first season in the first team.
