Serena Williams To Launch Her Own Beauty Line

Not only is Venus now more match fit - this is her 13th WTA event over the past 12 months, and Serena's first - but the earlier in the tournament they play each other, the more it has favoured Venus.

Serena Williams will play her sister, Venus today (Monday) in the third round at Indian Wells as she continues her comeback after the birth of her child.

That this is Indian Wells, a tournament that holds plenty of history for the Williams sisters, makes it an even more loaded contest.

Venus and Serena have faced each other 28 times in their legendary careers and they are now meeting in Serena's first tournament back on the WTA Tour since she beat Venus 6-4, 6-4 in the 2017 Australian Open final. Venus last beat Serena in the semifinals of the Rogers Cup in 2014, in a two-hour, three-set match.

This is the first time the siblings will play each other at the BNP Paribas Open.

Venus is 5-4 against Serena when they meet before the semi-finals. The announcement drew boos from fans, who expressed doubt that she was indeed injured. She said their father, Richard, would probably decide - an insinuation that their matches were rigged.

Serena is returning to the tour after more than a year away after pregnancy and childbirth. "The undercurrent of racism was painful, confusing and unfair", she wrote.

Still showing some rust from her long layoff, Serena hit just one ace and made 37 unforced errors to 32 for Bertens.

Presently unseeded Serena was the world No.1 when she began her long vacation from the game, following her victory at the 2017 Australian Open, where she was already expecting daughter Alexis Olympia, who was born in September.

"Obviously, I wish it was anybody else in the draw, literally anybody, but that's OK", Serena said. In an interview with BBC, Serena said, "It's been hard". "First of all, 17 years ago seems like forever ago".

This is the earliest the sisters will be playing in a tournament since the 1998 Australian Open, when they met in the second round.
