Redmi 5 India Launch Date Is March 14: What to Expect From the Xiaomi Smartphone

The Redmi 5 is launching in India tomorrow at 3 PM. Xiaomi has collaborated with Amazon.in for the phone's online sales, which means that the Redmi 5 will be exclusively up for sale on Amazon India. To recall, Xiaomi had subsidised the Redmi 5A's starting price to Rs. 4,999 at launch, with the claim of it going back to the regular price after 5 million units are sold.

The Redmi 5 in China comes in three storage variants - 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM priced at RMB 799 (Rs 7,800 approximately), 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM priced at RMB 899 (Rs 8,800 approximately), and 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM priced at RMB 1,099 (approximately Rs 11,000). The phone features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD HD+ screen with 720×1440 pixels resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection on top to provide scratch resistance. Regarding design, the Redmi 5 boasts metal rear panel and glass front panel with plastic framing on the sides. It also comes with a separate Mi Drop cloud storage app, Do Not Disturb mode, App vault to secure all most-used applications in one folder, split screen (compatible with select applications only), new widget options, Home screen editing options and more. On the front, the phone bears a 5MP selfie snapper with a fixed-focus lens, soft-light flash, and support for 1080p video recording. The phone is powered by a 3300mAh non removable battery. Concerning connectivity, the Redmi 5 supports Dual-SIM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, FM Radio, Bluetooth 4.2, IR port, microUSB 2.0 port, and 3.5mm audio jack. The phone is available in Dark Grey, Rose Gold, and Gold colour variants. Its elder sibling, the Redmi 5, is expected to arrive in India at an event rumoured for March 14.
