Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes has not only fallen way down the pecking order at Camp Nou, the Portuguese is gradually becoming a divisive figure among the Catalan faithful due to his somewhat consistent poor form.

The 24-year-old, who has a contract with Barca until June 2021, admitted that in a football mad city such as Barcelona, being seen as a footballing failure was even affecting his personal life.

'I don't feel well on the field, I am not enjoying the thing I like to do The first six months were pretty good but then things changed'.

"The feeling that I have during games is bad".

"Thinking too much has hurt me". My team-mates help me a lot but things don't work out the way they want them to work out.

Gomes, a €35 million signing with another €20m in potential add-ons, has made 25 appearances for Barca this season, although 15 of them have been as a substitute.

"On more than one occasion, I didn't want to leave my house. Because people look at you, having the fear of going on the street out of shame", he added.

Considering how the east London side have struggled to hit the right notes in recent transfer markets, West Ham will be dodging a big bullet by avoiding Gomes altogether. "It was an act of bravery to admit the things he said", Valverde told a news conference on Tuesday ahead of Barca's Champions League last-16 second leg against Premier League champions Chelsea.

"I don't allow myself to let out the frustration that I have". Then I don't talk to anybody, I don't bother anyone. I feel comfortable with my teammates. "In training, I am generally relaxed although there can be days when I feel a little low on confidence and it's noticeable". "I'm sure the players and the fans will help the team and players to get through".

Manchester United have been linked with the midfielder, while Tottenham, West Ham and Liverpool have all been credited with an interest in the past.
