Kirk Cousins paves way for fully guaranteed contract for Aaron Rodgers

The Broncos were expected to be in the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes, but clearly they either did not like the price or felt he already was going somewhere else, so they pounced on Keenum.

What this does hopefully, is give the Broncos a chance to really compete for a championship. The Vikings front office saw him as a nice luxury as a backup but not worth a franchise tag.

While Keenum to Denver has a sexy sound to it, it doesn't seem like the Broncos want Keenum back in the AFC.

That would be of enormous significance to the future of free agency, and at least two teams are reportedly willing to take the plunge.

The Redskins overall had a disappointing season in 2017 at 7-9. But if the Broncos stay healthy on defense and Keenum is who they hope he can be, they can compete for the division title. He would be more of a short-term play than a long-term play for the Vikings, but even at his age he's far more of a sure thing than Cousins. Remember, Keenum is going into a new system with a different team. Cousins, meanwhile, is 26-30-1. The 29-year-old ranked seventh in the National Football League last season with 4,093 passing yards while completing 64.3 percent of his passes for the Washington Redskins. He has 58,097 passing yards and 408 touchdowns with the Saints and is likely to become the NFL's all-time passing yards leader at some point in the 2018 season. At the time, many people saw his selection as foolish. For their draft flexibility, yes. Although he was excellent for the Vikings last season, he was surrounded by a very good team and had an undistinguished career bouncing around the league before arriving in Minnesota.

The 2018 NFL Draft is a little more than six weeks away, as teams inch ever so close to the annual selection process. Beyond Keenum, it also looks like Sam Bradford will be joining another team as it was reported yesterday that the Buffalo Bills, who recently lost their quarterback Tyrod Taylor to free agency, are interested in the oft-injured Bradford. Denver is one above-average quarterback away from making a serious playoff run, but they are focusing in on Cousins to lead the way as their gunslinger.

Outside of the Vikings, there are quite a few teams that could use a player like Williams.
