GUJRAT: The trend of shoe hurling continued as an unidentified man threw shoe at senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan, standing next to party Chairman Imran Khan on a makeshift stage in Gujrat on Tuesday.

The shoe hit Aleem Khan's in the chest, with the attacker being immediately overpowered by the crowd.

The shoe hit the PTI leader squarely in the chest, although with lesser force than was perhaps intended. Imran appeared to have not noticed that the incident happened. Reports suggest Imran Khan angrily abandoned his address and came down from the stage after the attack.

While Imran Khan's party blame the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the "shameful act", Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah was quick to condemn the incident, saying that such shameful stunts can never be encouraged.

Today's incident is the third such attack on politicians in the span of a week.

On the same day, two men lobbed shoes at former prime minister Nawaz Sharif as he was about to begin his address at a seminary in Lahore, with one hitting him. A man was arrested after the incident; however, Asif said he should be released saying he has no enmity with him.
