Ruckus in Gujarat Assembly as BJP Congress MLAs exchange blows

The incident occurred after Congress MLAs started creating ruckus and rushed to the well as their MLA from Jamnagar Vikram Maadam was not allowed to raise a point of order. "I wanted to suspend the errant legislators for five years but the ruling party appears to be soft and has sought only three years' suspension", Trivedi said.

The commotion compelled the Speaker to adjourn the House for 10 minutes which was later extended till 2.30 p.m.

Madam wanted to know whether the government meant to table the report of the commission entrusted to investigate the unfortunate incident. However, Madam refused to give in and other legislators from his party, Ambrish Der and Virji Thumar, rushed towards the well of the House. Der questioned the Speaker's intention, for which he received a warning from the Speaker.

Later, speaking to media persons, Dudhat alleged that he was being targetted by the treasury benches and abuses were being hurled at him for over a week.

At this point, BJP MLA Jagdish Panchal passed some remarks that prompted Congress legislator Pratap Dudhat as well as another Congress MLA to rush towards the Well of the House. The other BJP members present in the House came to Panchal's rescue and attacked Der.

"The BJP is trying to shift the people's attention from public issues like the death of children in Asaram Ashram". Madam, however, insisted that he would speak. For the last six to seven days, BJP MLA Jagdish Panchal has been uttering bad words and using foul language against me in the House. "I do not even know what I was being suspended for", he said.

Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja was holding a meeting with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani over the incident. Another MLA Baldevji Thakor, who allegedly punched his BJP rivals in the assembly lobby, has been suspended for a year.
