Black Panther's Dora Milaje are Getting Comic Book Spin-Off

Written by Nnedi Okorafor with art by Alberto Alburquerque, the comic books will focus on Okoye, Ayo, and Aneka of the Dora Milaje as their story arc moves through Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men, and Avengers. In an interview with Vogue Okorafor said of the female protectors, "Typically when you see them, they're with T'Challa, representing and protecting him". AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 brings the Dora Milaje out of their vibranium city and into NY in the first of a three-part story when a Wakandan threat falls upon Manhattan - and they meet webslinger Peter Parker! "Now you're going to see the Dora Miljae for the first time as an independent entity; they're not under the shadow of the throne".

Nnedi Okorafor is slated to write all three issues, with Terry and Rachel Dodson doing covers.

The Hugo and Nebula award-winning author is no stranger to Afro-futurism.

"I'm super excited about writing this storyline". "This moment has been coming for a long time", said Okorafor. "People have craved these types of characters for a while, and I don't think that craving is going to pass; it's something that is here to stay". WAKANDA FOREVER starts here before continuing later this year in July's WAKANDA FOREVER: X-MEN and August's WAKANDA FOREVER: AVENGERS!

Join the fearless trio of Okoye, Ayo and Aneka in all-new stories as they travel the globe to protect Wakanda on June 27 in Nnedi Okorafor and Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque's WAKANDA FOREVER: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN!

The difference? Aside from a limited (rather than ongoing) series for the Dora, it could be argued that Wakandan characters - and the title "Wakanda Forever" - are much more powerful and popular following in the wake of the wildly popular movie than ever before. Her novel, Who Fears Death, was picked up as a TV series for HBO in 2017.
