It's Raoul vs. Harold in November for Illinois Attorney General

Attorney and former Miss America Erika Harold has won the Republican primary for IL attorney general.

State Sen. Kwame Raoul squeaked out a primary win over former Illinois Gov. Though the race hadn't been called, Quinn conceded to Raoul late Tuesday.

Raoul and Harold are seeking to replace Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who surprisingly announced that she would not seek a fifth term.

The Illinois State Senator will face Erika Harold, victor of the Republican primary, in November's election. In addition to those three, there were five other Democratic candidates who had hoped to get their name on the final ballot in November: State Rep. Scott Drury, former chief administrator of Chicago's Civilian Office of Police Accountability Sharon Fairley, attorney Aaron Goldstein, former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti, and Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering. Raoul outspent competitors and received establishment backing from the Cook County Democratic Party. She said she is committed to represent "all Illinoisans regardless of political affiliation", promising to be an independent voice who can stand up to political corruption.

Raoul took over then-state Sen.

She also wants to take on what she sees to be a corrupt political machine run by Speaker of the House Michael Madigan, a Chicago Democrat. Barack Obama's seat in 2004.

Harold beat out litigation attorney Gary Grasso Tuesday for the nomination. Raoul completed his undergraduate education at DePaul University and went on to earn a law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. "She's very much a conservative Christian candidate, so I think she's going to be very formidable in the attorney general's race".

He was pleased to see her spend two days in Quincy last month on a campaign trip.

Harold received 55 percent of the vote in Adams County. I don't think it's about being stuck in the past. "The attorney general is a lawyer for the people".
