Spy poisoning: Russian diplomats prepare to leave UK

The British diplomats are expected to leave Moscow in the coming days.

Theresa May has blamed Russian Federation for the poisoning of Sergei Skripal, 66, the former double agent, and his daughter Yulia, 33, on March 4. The Russian Premier said that Russia has destroyed all chemical weapons and it was utter nonsense to even suggest his country is responsible for this poisoning incident.

Russian diplomats told the Conference on Disarmament at the United Nations in Geneva that Britain was not living up to its obligations by failing to share evidence with Moscow on the case and said Russia should be considered innocent until proven guilty.

Twenty-three expelled Russian diplomats and their families left London for Moscow on Tuesday as Britain and Russia traded recriminations over a nerve agent attack in England that has plunged relations into their worst crisis since the Cold War.

Russian officials have repeatedly denied carrying out the poisoning, and President Vladimir Putin described the accusations as "delirium" on Sunday, in comments after winning another six years as president.

Both Mr Skripal and his daughter remain in critical conditions.

Russia's state-run news agency, TASS, reports that the diplomats and their families departed the compound to the strains of a Russian patriotic march.

The UK's national security council was meeting on Tuesday to consider any further measures against Russian Federation.

The Embassy personnel, ejected in retaliation for the use of a military-grade nerve agent on British soil, flew home to Russian Federation the same day. Western powers see the attack as a sign of increasingly aggressive Russian meddling overseas.

They, however, cautioned that the full investigation may take months to complete. The two remain hospitalized in critical condition, debilitated by what the United Kingdom government calls a deadly nerve agent. The focus is on the movement of the Skripals in the hours before they were found unconscious on a bench in the cathedral city 90 miles (145 kms) southwest of London.

Removal vans and diplomatic cars have been leaving the embassy in London.

The time for issuing Russian entry visas for UK citizens may double in the wake of expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats from the country, Russian Ambassador to the UK Alexander Yakovenko said Tuesday.

Worldwide chemical weapons experts took samples Monday of the nerve agent used, which Britain says is the Soviet-developed Novichok.
