Manchester United 'drag themselves into the 21st century' with women's team

Manchester United have finally joined the rest of the 21st century by announcing their intention to create a women's team.

United have reportedly bid to create a team in the FA Women's Super League second division.

United's decision to form a professional team should provide a sizeable boost for the domestic women's game.

The FA has provided excellent support through the process and we believe that launching a team in WSL2 would give many more of our graduates from the regional talent club the chance to establish themselves as first team players.

"I understand the frustration, I understand the sadness of being knocked out in the Champions League, but I don't understand anything more than that", Mourinho told CNN Sport's Amanda Davies Wednesday after managing Usain Bolt in the Match of Friendship in Basel during the global break.

The Women's Super League will be rebranded next season with WSL becoming the Women's Super League and WSL2 the Women's Championship.

The aforementioned club has already seen upwards of 15 of its graduates playing global football in the 2017-18 season alone.

Should the application prove successful, the women's team would be based at United's long-serving training centre at The Cliff.

"And I think really at this moment looking to us in the Premier League we have one team, one club clearly better prepared than us in the past few years to be first and we have 18 clubs behind us".

United chief executive Ed Woodward announced in a statement that they are hopeful their application will go through, where they would enter the second division.

Killen is a Sunderland fan and while she has endured the struggles of Chris Coleman's side in the Sky Bet Championship this season her appreciation of the women's game is growing.

And Bolt has continuously made it known that Manchester United is the club he wants to join.
