His 37-goal improvement matched the third-largest year-to-year boost in National Hockey League history. Leading the way is 30-year-old kingpin Anze Kopitar with his best offensive season since 2009-10 while continuing to be a two-way force as a shutdown center. However, this year Quick played a 64 game season for the Kings. Forwards such as Dustin Brown have been encouraged to think offense more than they did under the previous regime and be more selective about laying out a big hit. Las Vegas was able to grab the first two a year ago, but Los Angeles was victorious in back-to-back games at the end of February. And Drew Doughty is sometimes thrown off his game when a pest such as Matthew Tkachuk is sent in his direction.

No matter how often the Golden Knights proved themselves and how many expansion-team records they shattered throughout the season, many pointed towards the playoffs as the team's day of reckoning. Game in, game out.

A burlier, bodily team like the Kings, they said, would render the Knights' speedier, aggressive style useless. The Vegas forecheck plan is to aggressively pressure defenders in their own zone, negating or rushing their breakout. William Karlsson leads Vegas with 43 goals, David Perron has 50 assists and Jonathan Marchessault has 268 shots on goal.

How They Lose: The hockey gods get to the end of the fairytale book they've been writing? They've been almost unbeatable at home, so expect the crowd in Vegas to be pumped up and ready.

The result is an ad that shows a VGK player smashing a puck into the infrastructure of the city. The Golden Knights have all the pieces to beat any team along their way. Quick prefers his pads soft and flexible, which lets him move explosively while keeping them strapped tighter than most goaltenders.

"These six towers are now the only existing option of their kind available on the Las Vegas Strip, making this ad corridor an extremely valuable asset to advertisers", says Jeremie Watkins, managing partner of Kre8 Media. At some point the clock has to strike midnight and Karlsson has to turn into a pumpkin. The teams split their four regular-season games, each winning once at home and once on the road, even as the expansion Knights were making an unprecedented run through the regular season. The veteran netminder turned in arguably the best campaign of his career, but he's had his share of playoff misfortune.

However, it's hard to see a team that has played so well throughout the year just roll over in the first round of the playoffs. What will a Vegas vs Kings matchup look like? Kopitar can't continue to do this by himself. This good be where Jeff Carter comes in, though. Getting Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli going would also be a great help.

The problem is, they're going up against the stingiest penalty-killing group in the league in the Kings, who are tops in PK efficiency at a sparkling 85 percent, allowing just 39 goals on 260 chances. He owns a sub-.900 save percentage in his playoff career, and at a time of the year when goaltending is squarely in the spotlight, that's not almost good enough.

The Los Angeles Kings hope to set the tone of this series early by stealing game one and reversing home ice advantage. You can bet on nearly anything in Las Vegas, but be careful about wagering against the Knights.
