Google's Redesign of Gmail to Include a 'Confidential Mode'

Now, TechCrunch has reported on a new feature in the new Gmail: the ability to send confidential emails that expire. Alongside the "self-destructing" feature Google will also allow the users to establish two-factor authentications by adding a passcode which will be generated by Google for private messages.

Google has confirmed that its Gmail update will come soon hence it is supposed to be available within the coming weeks.

A Gmail update for the web has been long awaited since the web client hasn't changed in many years, thus we can expect the web UI to look something like Google's material design on smartphones.

The email also says that the changes will also be appearing on the consumer version of the Gmail. The company is rumored to be including three layouts, a sidebar to view your calendar or notes, smart replies with prewritten responses and a snooze button to mute email threads until you're written to answer them. Google is reportedly introducing a confidential mode that will prevent the recipient from downloading, printing, copying, pasting or forwarding the message you send them.

'We're working on some major updates to Gmail (they're still in draft phase)', a Google spokesperson told MailOnline.

The redesign will focus mainly on Gmail for web to make it look cleaner and user-friendly like its mobile interface.

TechCrunch, who received the information from a tipster with early access, points out this could be a ploy to get more Gmail users' phone numbers. It's less dramatic - and it's due to a security feature Google will test out on the new Gmail.

Google has launched a lightweight search application aimed at emerging markets, called Google Go.

There are a number of ways the technology could be used, and perhaps to allay the public's likely (and probably founded) concerns about privacy, Google has led with the rather dry example of speech recognition for automatic video captioning. "We need a bit more time to compose ourselves, so can't share anything yet - archive this for now, and we'll let you know when it's time to hit send", shared the spokesperson.
