Fired FBI chief: Trump 'morally unfit' for office

Former FBI director James Comey told associates Donald Trump was"outside the realm of normal and"crazy

Mr Comey has a tell-all book, 'Higher Loyalty, ' due out on tomorrow.

ABC published the full transcript of the interview on its website. If only as the logical sequel to The Art of the Deal.

"Do you think the Russians have something on Donald Trump?". "In fact, though I didn't know for sure, I imagined the presidential suite of the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow was large enough for a germaphobe to be at a safe distance from the activity".

Here are three things Comey compared Trump to during the interview. "And I remember thinking, 'How could your wife think there's a 1 per cent chance you were with prostitutes peeing on each other in Moscow?' I'm a flawed human being, but there's literally zero chance that my wife would think that was true". "He strikes me as a person of above average intelligence who's tracking conversations and knows what's going on", Comey said.

Stephanopoulos asked if it was possible that the Russians "have something on Donald Trump". "Come with me, and sit there with me", he said. "And maybe another director might have done that".

The fierce counter-attack by Trump, the White House and the Republican National Committee is less an attempt to defend the President's behavior or dispute Comey's points than to raise questions about his integrity and motivation in order to devalue his devastating takedown of Trump. Was it a mistake to agree to give Trump "honest loyalty" instead? "This was something more than that", Comey said, "but not something that anybody would prosecute". "Yeah, that's fair feedback".

Correspondent George Stephanopoulos, left, appears with former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey for a taped interview that aired during a primetime "20/20" special on Sunday, April 15, 2018 on the ABC Television Network.

"I'm about to meet a person who doesn't know me, who's just been elected president of the United States".

Comey again defended his actions, saying he made what he thought was the best decision at the time.

This kind of hedging gets confusing when you're warning about existential dangers to democracy. "He is morally unfit to be president".

When asked if the Russians had something on Trump, Comey said: "I think it's possible".

"Possibly. I mean, it's certainly some evidence of obstruction of justice", Mr Comey said.

Donald Trump is "morally unfit" to be president, former FBI Director James Comey said in a highly anticipated prime-time interview Sunday, adding that he couldn't rule out the possibility that the Russian government has incriminating information about the president. The FBI was also interested in Carter Page, another adviser.

House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan, interviewed on NBC's "Meet the Press", expressed qualified support for Comey. "His "memos" are self serving and FAKE!" he said.

Toward the end of the 2016 campaign, Trump praised "the courage" of the FBI for reopening its investigation of Clinton's use of a private email server - a development Clinton has blamed for her election loss.

Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch pushed back against Comey's criticism in the book that, early in the Clinton email inquiry, she had instructed him to refer to it as a "matter" rather than an "investigation". Talk about a slimeball!

Comey also revealed his assumption that Hillary Clinton was going to win the election.

And they say honesty is such a lonely word.

First Syria, now James Comey. "He has no credibility and President Trump was right to follow through on the bipartisan calls for him to be fired".

Knowing all this super-secret stuff, and being so above reproach, Comey felt it was his duty to protect the sanctity of the election by blabbing his mouth to the media just before the election itself. Comey announced in July 2016 that he would not recommend charges against Clinton, but stated publicly that Clinton and her aides had been "extremely careless" in handling classified information. According to sources familiar with Schiller's testimony who spoke with NBC, the former Trump bodyguard turned down the offer and the two men laughed about it as he accompanied Trump back to his room and left him there for the night. And that is clearly leaving his ex-boss feeling more than a little nauseous during most of his non-golfing hours.

He calls Trump "untethered to the truth" is "ego-driven" and runs the White House like a "mob boss".
