Incarcerated rapper Meek Mill is getting a new trial.

During a status hearing on Monday, Philadelphia city attorney announced that Mill's conviction should be cleared and he should get a new trial, according to CBS Philly.

This move by Mill's legal team gives a promising prospect that he might soon be released from his two-year sentence and could be out on bail.

Mill is now serving a two- to four-year prison sentence for violating his parole stemming from a gun and drugs charge back in 2008. Mill's lawyers argue that the sentence is excessive, part of what they call judge's "personal vendetta".

Mill's supporters have been at the Criminal Justice Center on Monday to protest his imprisonment over a probation violation.

Last week, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney went to the state prison in Chester to visit Meek Mill. Other celebrities have also showed support for his release.
