U.S President Donald Trump has invited President Muhammadu Buhari to Washington on April 30, the White House says.

Trump will discuss issues such as promoting economic growth and fighting terrorism with Buhari, the White House said in a statement.

"President Trump looks forward to discussing ways to enhance our strategic partnership and advance our shared priorities", White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement. She adds that the United States has a "deep and strong" relationship with Nigeria.

The scheduled meeting will be the second between the two leaders as the two met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2018, during a luncheon Trump held for a select group of African leaders. In September, recall that both men met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in NY last September. The meeting comes weeks after Rex Tillerson, then USA secretary of state, visited Nigeria and other African countries in March only to be fired after his return to Washington.

President Buhari will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit which begins in London on 18 April and ends on 20 April.
