Em 14 de abril, EUA, França e Reino Unido lançaram ataques à Síria, em represália ao governo, o qual acusam de estar por trás da ofensiva química.

A Síria ofereceu à equipe de nove investigadores da Opaq depoimentos de 22 testemunhas do suposto ataque ocorrido há nove dias em Duma, onde foi registrada a denúncia contra o regime de Bashar al Assad.

Na segunda-feira a Opaq denunciou que seus analistas não puderam acessar a cidade devido a "questões de segurança" alegadas por Rússia e Síria. Já o Hezbollah, a milícia pró-iraniana, fez saber que as defesas aéreas sírias tinham intercetado três mísseis disparados contra o aeroporto militar de Dumair, a nordeste da capital.

Os inspetores de armas químicas na Síria têm autorização para visitar o local do alegado ataque químico esta quarta-feira.

"Os russos podem ter visitado o local do ataque".

O vice-ministro sírio das Relações Exteriores, Fayzal Mokdad, afirma que as missões devem ser realizadas "com transparência e neutralidade" e os investigadores em Damasco tiveram diversas reuniões com os funcionários do regime para discutir com serão feitas as operações. "Tememos que eles o tenham alterado na intenção de frustrar os esforços da missão da Opaq para fazer uma investigação eficaz", declarou o embaixador americano na Opaq, Ken Ward, na segunda-feira (16). O chefe da diplomacia russa juntou-se a outros responsáveis que criticaram os EUA, o Reino Unido e a França por desencadearem os ataques antes de a equipa da OPAQ conduzir as suas investigações. "A Síria conservou um programa químico clandestino desde 2013", garantiu ontem o embaixador francês em Haia, Philippe Lalliot.

Os especialistas, cuja tarefa é investigar o possível uso de armas químicas, mas não identificar os autores, ainda não visitaram Douma, onde o suposto ataque causou dezenas de mortes, de acordo com os Capacetes Brancos, grupo de defesa civil que atua em regiões da Síria controladas pela oposição a Assad.

Em 2014, a Opaq afirmou que a Síria havia se livrado de suas armas químicas. Pelo menos 80 pessoas morreram nesse episódio.
