Chennai Super Kings won the first match dramatically

The BCCI has short-listed four cities to host Chennai Super King's home matches after the IPL franchise was told to consider shifting base due to the Cauvery water protest, CoA chief Vinod Rai said on Wednesday.

"CSK will be asked to move their home matches to Pune as Chennai Police have expressed their inability to provide adequate security for the remaining matches", he said.

Thiruvananthapuram MP and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor too said on Wednesday the matches would be played at Thiruvananthapuram's Sports Hub if the BCCI chose to shift the venue to Kerala.

According to IPL sources, Visakhapatnam is the front-runner from among the four cities, the other three being Thiruvananthapuram, Pune and Rajkot.

Committee of Administrator (CoA) Vinod Rai confirmed that the prevailing situation has forced them to explore options.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) matches scheduled at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will now be held in Pune's Maharashtra Cricket Association's International Stadium, media reported on Thursday. There are four alternative venues that BCCI has kept ready.

Shukla had also spoken to the Union Home Secretary on Tuesday, seeking government intervention in smooth conduct of IPL matches in Chennai.

"We have to keep in mind the prevailing political and security situation in the state. CSK can play their matches at these venues", he said. "It will be CSK's decision", Rai was quoted as saying.

As of now, Kolkata and Rajkot have emerged as frontrunners to host these matches.

Thus far Du Plessis has been limited to retrieving shoes thrown at Super Kings players during their first and now last home match for the IPL in 2018.
