Cavaliers vs Celtics: #NBATwitter Reacts To Game 1 Blowout

LeBron James

LeBron James

There was one particular possession in the third quarter where James got the matchup he was looking for by setting a screen on George Hill, who was being guarded by Rozier, at the top of the perimeter. "We're very aware we will get a heavyweight punch Tuesday".

Surely, one game won't define a series as protracted as a best-of-seven. The younger guys to the older guys, we think we can compete and play with anybody.

Ask anyone about LeBron James' historic greatness and they'll tell you pretty much the same thing. The young Celtics got off to a quick start in game 1, and completely dismantled the veteran Cavaliers. In fact, only 6 of James' points and 4 of James' field goal attempts came within four feet of the rim in Game 1.

"Boston showed James two bodies all night", Cavs coach Tyronn Lue noted. That point being they are not the petrified Toronto Raptors, and they are not about to bow down to the King and the reigning Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers.

There have been times (against the Warriors and Spurs in the Finals, for example) when dropping Game 1 of a series has proved to be less of a "feel-out game" and more like "the other team was just better". To a man, the Cavs predicted a monster Game 2 from their star. They are 6-1 in those games. "Every time we go up against somebody we're the underdogs". If the past is any indication, LeBron is about to bounce back in a big way in game 2. The Boston Celtics are -1.0 over the Cavaliers in game 2. Some defenders are better at guarding him one-on-one than others and in those instances, James will initiate a switch that allows him to beat a player off-the-dribble from the perimeter or in the low-post.

Chances are LeBron is going to be much more aggressive on Tuesday night, and we won't see him deferring to teammates and loafing on defense.

The Celtics forced James to work harder defensively as well. It was Morris, who was promoted to the starting lineup for the first time this postseason, getting away with subtle shoves during moments in Cleveland's offensive plays when James didn't possess the ball, or the officials' attention.

The Cavs just don't have answers.

When they are open, the Cavaliers can't afford to miss.

I guess we can expect that happening again today. Love struggled against Al Horford in the frontcourt all day, while the Cleveland supporting cast was unable to provide any sustained support to James.

The 108-83 rout on Sunday was empowering for a young Celtics team, and helped show a skeptical National Basketball Association landscape that the Celtics are strong, athletic and have phenomenal talent even with injuries that may have crushed a lesser squad's hopes for an extended playoff run.

By inserting Tristan Thompson into the starting five alongside Love, Cleveland would most likely force the Celtics to counter by using Aron Baynes.

Thompson, who played well and had eight points and 11 rebounds in less than 21 minutes in the opener, issued a bit of a warning on behalf of James, saying, "Usually when LeBron has these kind of games, the next game he does something legendary". "We fed off the crowd and we kept it going throughout the game". If you loaded up on Celtics, that worked out well in Game 1.

Who Is Feeling It From Downtown?

At that point, it did not seem that the Cavs would mount another comeback as the Celtics persisted, and stretched the gap to as high as 29.
