After three seasons on The Following, Kevin Bacon is officially back on the Federal Bureau of Investigation beat: Showtime has handed a series order to the Bacon-led crime drama City on a Hill, TVLine has learned. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc.

Also starring in the series is Jill Hennessy (Crossing Jordan), Lauren E. Banks (Instinct), Amanda Clayton (If Loving You Is Wrong), Kevin Chapman (Brotherhood) and Jere Shea (Passion) with Kevin Dunn (Veep).

Created by Chuck MacLean (Boston Strangler), the series based on an original idea by Ben Affleck.

City on a Hill is executive produced by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Emmy nominee Jennifer Todd (Jason Bourne, Memento) for Pearl Street Films. It is set in the early 1990s in Boston, a time when the city was rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm. MacLean wrote the pilot and executive produces. In this fictional account, an assistant district attorney (Aldis Hodge) forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt, yet highly respected Federal Bureau of Investigation veteran (Kevin Bacon) to take down a family of armored vehicle robbers, and in doing so, subvert the city's entire criminal justice system. "In reality, the series is a penetrating look at the larger criminal justice system and those who operate within it, with mesmerizing performances by Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge anchoring the suspense". The Brooklynite teams up with corrupt but celebrated Federal Bureau of Investigation veteran Jackie Rhodes (Bacon), to tackle a case that, despite starting off typical, puts Boston's whole criminal justice system in jeopardy.

Bacon will serve as co-exec producer as well as playing the role of Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Jackie Rohr.
