Bollywood celebrities such as Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, and Juhi Chawla have joined the challenge that has been initiated by the UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador, Dia Mirza.

Dia had shared a picture that showed a lot of plastic bottles, littered around in an open area. She captions, "All those contesting Maharashtra Government's ban on #singleuseplastics I want to ask you, WHY? She took to her Twitter account to share a picture of herself with a steel bottle and wrote alongside, "#BeatPlasticPollution by switching to steel or glass bottles today! "Our health, water, soil, seas, nothing is spared". She also urged plastic industries to reach higher levels of sustainability and do better by introducing greener alternatives to plastic stirrers, straws, plates and other similar items.

Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme Erik Solheim said that environment was a people-centric problem in India.

Check here:Arjun Kapoor and Juhi Chawla also joined the challenge. Arjun further challenged Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, and Parineeti Chopra. Arjun captioned his picture writing, "It takes one small step to #BeatPlasticPollution!"

New Delhi has tried repeatedly over the past decade to ban the use of thin plastic bags, most recently announcing a heavy fine for rule-breakers.

After chairing a meeting of environmental experts and top government officials on the topic, President Nicos Anastasiades said in a statement that he gave instructions for Cyprus to play a bigger role in a part of the world that's particularly susceptible to climate change. But if we have an army of volunteers it would take us less than 20 years to eradicate single-use plastic from India.
