As she continues searching for an inspiring survivor or caregiver, Co-Chair Christopher Farrington is busy recruiting community members to volunteer to help with event duties tied to site setup, entertainment, luminaria sales, registration, survivorship, parking, security, and post event cleanup. A resident of the Finger Lakes area in NY, she is a member of National Relay Leadership Team as well as the Northeast Regional Leadership Team. "Today we will hear unbelievable stories of strength, courage and hope, and this entire relay runs on hope".

Around midnight there is a special 5K planned for kids and participants.

Since the first Canadian Relay for Life in 1999, the event has raised over $500 million for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Kathy Leek, 53, of Walmart's Team Kathy, was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in November 2017. About eight teams participated in the opening ceremony. This year's speaker for the opening ceremony will be cancer survivor Dan Brooks of Peru.

Mr Farrington told The Newtown Bee that he first became involved with Relay in 2004.

"My goal is to see more survivors than people who lose the battle", she said. But she said watching someone go through cancer was nothing like going through it yourself. "It's just an unbelievable sight to experience, to know that the team at Greater Niagara is Relaying with you". I Relay because I LOVE Purple Power! "Now, eight years later, I am part of the Newtown committee, and I wouldn't change it for the world".

Lockett said having the support of her friends and family has helped her keep going, as well. "I've lost too many people in my family to cancer". She had won the battle against cancer.

McAloon said final fundraising totals will not be official until August 31, the closing date for the year. The fight against cancer is a movement in my family and is personal to me.

The 12-hour event will feature fun, food and friendship and is geared to people of all ages. I had someone who invited me.

Relay For Life also provides an opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer, Lockett said.

Life, he said, was little more than a blur for the next 15 months as he went through radiation and chemotherapy treatments. She has been involved in the Jefferson County branch of the event since 2005. They will come together to celebrate with cancer survivors and remember those that this awful disease has claimed. "The luminary candlelit lap is so moving and speaks volume of our pain and our resilience".

The event is a celebration of the year-long efforts to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

Her mother and two of her sisters are breast cancer survivors, like Phillips, who beat the disease in 2006. I hope you will join us at Relay For Life on June 22 and show your support for this most worthy cause.

For Ms Broomer, there is no one thing she looks forward to each year. "It's the survivors and caregivers that truly, truly understand the battle and the journey".

"As a survivor, I relay to raise awareness, and I relay for research", Anderson said, "We all have a different reason to relay".
