Team Sky's Geraint Thomas wrapped up arguably the biggest win of his road career on Sunday, claiming victory in the prestigious Criterium du Dauphine - traditionally seen as a good gauge of form ahead of July's Tour de France - on another bumper day for British cycling.

Yates, who attacked several times in the stage finale, managed to overtake Dani Navarro on the last curve of the final climb to Saint-Gervais, in the French Alps, just about 50 meters from the finish line.

Yates finished the punishing 136-kilometre ride from Moutiers to Saint-Gervais four seconds ahead of Spaniard Daniel Navarro, with Frenchman Romain Bardet in third place, nine seconds behind the stage victor.
