Brazil v Croatia- International Friendly- Anfield

Fred suffered a training ground injury on Thursday that Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar described as "trauma in his ankle". Fred featured for Brazil against Croatia at Anfield before moving to Manchester and securing a £47 million deal with the Premier League side.

The Brazilian was reportedly wanted by several of Europe's top clubs with Manchester City even said to be of those who were interested.

The Real Madrid midfielder appeared to land awkwardly on Fred's right ankle, before he was examined on the field then ruled out for the rest of the session.

Brazil talisman Neymar is the most probable replacement for Fred in midfield against Austria in Vienna but the South American's will be sweating on Fred's fitness as he has improved tremendously over the past few seasons.

The Red Devils confirmed the midfielders arrival earlier this week after a £52m deal was agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk, despite reports earlier this year strongly linking the 25-year-old with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Fred was one of the two signings Jose Mourinho has made this summer, with Diogo Dalot also joining from Porto. As far as his fitness for the World Cup is concerned, this is a great sign.
