Afghanistan At least twelve killed in Kabul suicide blast

At least 12 people were killed and 31 wounded after a blast took place outside a government ministry office in Kabul on Monday.

Employees inside the ministry at the time of the attack confirmed hearing a blast.

"Most of my colleagues were leaving for the day to go home".

Relatives of the victims mourn at a hospital after a suicide attack in Kabul on June 11. "We are told to stay inside for now".

A week ago, a motorcycle suicide bomber killed 14 people near a gathering of Muslim clerics in the Afghan capital after they had issued an edict against suicide bombings, officials said, in the latest in a series of attacks to hit Kabul.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to the education department, triggering a fierce battle between gunmen and Afghan security forces, Nangarhar provincial governor spokesman Attaullah Khogyani told AFP. At least six people were killed and 30 wounded, he said, but that could not be immediately confirmed.

Ghani on Thursday announced police and troops would halt hostilities with the Taliban for eight days - though he warned that operations against other groups, including Islamic State group, would continue.

Intense fighting was also reported between Afghan security forces and the Taliban in the northern provinces of Faryab and Sari Pul, with officials reporting an unspecified number of casualties on both sides.

"The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan announces a ceasefire from the 27th of Ramadan until the fifth day of Eid-ul-Fitr following the historic ruling (Fatwa) of the Afghan Ulema", said Ghani.

Talking to Commander RSM, the COAS said that Pakistan desires that US/ NATO forces must succeed and leave behind a peaceful and stable Afghanistan, the ISPR mentioned.

In another incident in Kunduz province, 15 security personnel were killed after a suspected attack by the Taliban, Pajhwok news agency reported.

It is the first time the militants have agreed to suspend fighting since the 2001 USA invasion, and the move was largely welcomed by war-weary Afghans.

The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.
