And Sky Sports reports on their live transfer blog (12/06; 12:18) that Rangers appear to be closing in on signing number five of this window with a £2 million fee agreed with the Croatian side Slaven Belupo for Katic.

The 21-year-old NK Slaven Belupo centre-back emerged as a target for new Gers boss Steven Gerrard over the weekend but he faces competition from Russian Federation.

In February 2016 he joined Slaven Belupo in the northern city of Koprivnica, a club that finished seventh in the Croatian First Football League in 2017/18.

Katić made 34 appearances last season and for several games took on the responsibility of being captain in the absence of the experienced Vedrun Purić.

New Gers manager Steven Gerrard has been busy in the transfer market since taking the top job at Ibrox, drafting in Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield and Ovie Ejaria (on a loan deal) as well as making Jamie Murphy's temporary move from Brighton permanent.

Rangers are set to return to the Seagulls for defender Connor Goldson, with a deal looking likely to be done by end of the week.
