Vienna possible venue for Putin-Trump summit

G7 summit Donald Trump

Following a formal welcoming ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing, Mr Putin first with China's premier Li Keqiang, telling him that Russia-China trade and economic ties have "gained a good tempo, and we are looking for new spheres of co-operation".

Trump made the comment at the White House Friday after hours of further escalating his rhetoric against longtime allies over US trade practices. "We will suspend our participation in the G-8 until Russian Federation changes course and the environment comes back to where the G-8 is able to have a meaningful discussion" the leaders wrote in The Hague Declaration in March 2014.

The coincidence of these two parallel gatherings demonstratively disproves Trump's main reason for inviting Russian Federation back-"because we have a world to run".

Also, Peter Navarro, Trump's trade adviser, criticized Trudeau on Fox News Sunday. He says gender equality must "cut through" everything the G-7 does. In the late 1990s, Russian Federation was invited to join, but then in 2014 the members chose to expel Russian Federation in response to its annexation of Crimea.

President Donald Trump's top economic adviser says Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau "really kind of stabbed us in the back" when Trudeau said at the end of the Group of Seven summit that Canada wouldn't be pushed around by the USA and its trade tariffs. From there, he planned to jet to Singapore for an unprecedented summit with the leader of North Korea, which is technically still in a state of war with the USA and considered by Trump's administration to be a state sponsor of terrorism.

The White House announced an early exit from the summit Thursday night after French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau signalled they would use the G7 event to take a stance against new USA tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. "It will start first of all to hurt USA workers". The president says at the Group of Seven summit: "If they retaliate, they're making a mistake".

The Canadian PM, for his part, said Mr Trump's action would hurt American workers as well as Canadians. At this point it's hard to justify adding Russian Federation to the G-7 when we aren't adding an ally like South Korea, not to mention China, India or Brazil, since they all have larger and more globally significant economies than Russian Federation does.

But EU President Donald Tusk also rejected the idea. "Today it is hard to say what these guarantees may look like or when they will come into effect", he said.

A few hours later, he added, "Take down your tariffs & barriers or we will more than match you!"

Then, Trump and Macron met again on the sidelines of the summit Friday evening.

In Charlevoix, Trump held a brief one-on-one meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, according to press secretary Sarah Sanders.

China is mired in tough negotiations with the United States to avoid a trade war, while Moscow has deep differences with Washington on multiple diplomatic fronts, including Syria and Ukraine. The European Union also attends.

The group managed a common statement in which they agreed to disagree on some issues, only to have Trump disavow the document in a tweet after leaving the meeting.

Under Trump, the United States has abandoned its traditional role in the G-7. It was organized in response to the 1973 world oil crisis. The president, who has railed over trade deficits with other countries, views his protectionist trade moves as key to his base and has grown increasingly frustrated with the leaders over their critiques. The point of the G-7 is to try and fix the world's problems.

"Our countries are definitely concerned about the current situation regarding the Iranian nuclear program", the Russian leader pointed out, adding that "the U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA may destabilize the situation".

The premier, however, said that Britain had registered its "deep disappointment at the unjustified decision by the U.S.to apply tariffs to European Union steel and aluminum imports" at the meeting. Canada is waiting until the end of the month to apply them with the hope the Trump administration will reconsider.

Keep in mind that when it comes to USA national security, no one objects to Trump's negotiating with Kim whose nuclear button is much smaller than America's.

At the same time he downplayed tensions at the acrimonious G7 meeting in Quebec City, after Trump disowned the joint summit statement and lambasted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
