Don't expect to see Alec Baldwin on the ballot in 2020, but the actor says if he ran he would "absolutely win".

On Monday, Baldwin-who won an Emmy a year ago for his portrayal of Donald Trump on SNL-told Howard Stern that he could beat the current Commander in Chief if he made a decision to run for the top office in 2020.

Alec Baldwin may be positioning himself for a 2020 presidential race against the man he plays on TV.

However, Baldwin joked that he's too busy hosting the ABC revival of Match Game to make a bid for the White House.

He also said that his campaign would be, "the funniest, most exciting, most insane campaign".

Baldwin has been universally lauded for his hilarious portrayal of Trump during a series of sketches on Saturday Night Live, which began shortly after the 2016 election in November. Baldwin said that his wife Hilaria would disapprove of his seeking the presidency. He added: "I'm only saying [I would run] because people don't really have a sense of who's going to come up [on the Democrats' side]".

"There are so many things that this country needs to do that are so obvious", he added.

In the very same interview with Howard Stern, the actor also went on to suggest that Donald Trump's meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un was little more than a cover-up to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.

"I'm told she loves...more than one person, now a second person has come to us and said, yeah, it's true", he claims.
