Torreira has impressed after a successful season in Serie A, leading to both Arsenal and Napoli chasing his signature.

Paris Saint-Germain youngster Yacine Adli is expected to turn down Arsenal after being persuaded by PSG sporting director Antero Henrique to sign a new contract, Goal understands, though talks between the Emirates side and Sampdoria's Lucas Torreira are ongoing.

Strengthening central midfield is a priority for the Gunners and the 22-year-old is seen as an ideal fit technically and at a reported £26m, would fall within their budget.

Torreira has a £21.9 million release clause in his contract, but Arsenal made a decision to add the extra money to beat Napoli to the the 22-year-old's signature.

However, reports suggest Arsenal are looking to avoid paying the fee up front. Today, Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Lucas Torreira....

The Italian publication says Torreira has a release clause set at £22m [€25m] but Arsenal are willing to pay a premium so we can spread the payments out in several installments rather than pay his exit fee in one lump sum.

Torriera has always been keen to join Napoli, but could end up in the Premier League this summer.

"#AFC also want a GK after defensive signings of Lichtsteiner & Sokratis (announced July)", Ornstein added.
