FBI Agent Chase Bishop turned himself in to authorities and could face a second-degree assault charge

An FBI agent accused of accidentally firing a gun as he danced at a bar has been charged with second-degree assault.

Bishop's story went viral after a video circulated on June 3 appeared to show him dropping a handgun while performing a backflip in Denver's Mile High Spirits distillery. He tries to pick it up and it fires.

The New York Post reports, Bishop's gun discharged and struck fellow reveller Tom Reddington in the leg at the Mile High Spirits bar in Downtown Denver.

"The FBI will continue to fully cooperate with the Denver Police Department and the Denver District Attorney's Office as this matter proceeds through the judicial process", Sanders said. The district attorney's office said in a statement investigators are still awaiting the tests to determine Bishop's blood alcohol content at the time of the incident, and additional charges may be pending.

Chase Bishop, 29, was being held in a detention center in downtown Denver. The agent was taken to police headquarters and later released to a supervisor with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Our Denver partner also reported that a former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent informed them that an agent who accidentally discharges a weapon will be automatically suspended for three days without pay.

The bar also said the patron who was shot is welcome to complimentary drinks forever at the bar.

"It is shocking that the only shooting to ever occur at our establishment came about as a result of an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent entering our distillery tasting room carrying a loaded firearm without our knowledge, in violation of our rules", the posting said. Still, he wrote that he was shocked at the agent's poor judgment. A muzzle flash can be seen on the video.

"And knowing he was armed, he may have elected to avoid the dance-off".
