Raheem Sterling contract talks break down?

Raheem Sterling and Manchester City have failed to reach agreement over a new long-term deal.

Sky Sports claim the two parties are nowhere near each other in negotiations.

The 23-year-old, now at the World Cup with England, earns £175,000-a-week and has two years left to run on his contract.

City have met Sterling's representatives on two separate occasions since the season came to an end, with the two sides unable to find any sort of agreement over the player's wages. Under Guardiola he has flourished in a free attacking role, finishing as the Premier League's fifth top scorer and just three league goals behind City top marksman, Sergio Aguero. Sterling meanwhile is entering the last two years of a deal, which presently earns him half that figure, around £175,000 a week.

Only four players scored more Premier League goals than Sterling in 2017/18, while several of his goals late in games were directly responsible for winning City numerous extra points in their record breaking title winning season.

It was hoped that a deal could be agreed before England get their World Cup campaign underway against Tunisia on June 18, but with Sterling flying out to Russian Federation today it now appears that further negotiations will have to wait.
