Premier League new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured the services of Mexico global Raul Jimenez on a season-long loan from Benfica.

Jimenez started only six of his 33 league appearances for Benfica last season, scoring six times, and will now seal his move subject to global clearance and a work permit.

The Mexico global forward is away with his country ahead of the World Cup in Russian Federation and will replace Benik Afobe who joins Championship side Stoke City for £12m just days after signing for Wolves in a £10m deal.

Jimenez became the most expensive signing in Portuguese league history when joining Benfica from Atletico Madrid for around £20m. All told, Jimenez scored 39 goals in 102 appearances for America over four seasons before heading to Europe.

Jimenez, who has scored 14 goals in 62 worldwide appearances, is part of Mexico's World Cup squad in Russian Federation.

Jimenez has also featured in 22 Champions League appearances and was part of Mexico's gold-winning football squad at the 2012 Olympics in London.
