First photos from 'Wonder Woman 1984' confirm that Chris Pine is returning as Steve Trevor

Director Patty Jenkins took to Twitter to officially announce that the Wonder Woman sequel has kicked off production by revealing that Chris Pine is back as Steve Trevor. The character sacrificed his life during the climax of the first "Wonder Woman", which means the script will have a lot of explaining to do in regards to how Trevor is alive in 1984.

"Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman's next big screen adventure finds her facing an all-new foe: The Cheetah", reads Warner Bros.'s press release. They are joined by Kristen Wiig (as Cheetah), and Pedro Pascal in an unspecified role.

Filming is scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C.; Alexandra, Virginia; the United Kingdom; Spain; and, the Canary Islands.

The photo arrives after the debut early this month of a staticky image that reads "WW84," teasing the sequel's actual title.

Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Stephen Jones and Gal Gadot are producing the film.

But according to a tweet that Jenkins sent out this morning.Trevor looks to be fine - albeit as confused as we are - in 1984.

Check out the exciting first Wonder Woman 2 images below.

Set to open in theaters November 1, 2019, Wonder Woman 1984 is based on the character created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment.
