Angelo Mathews, Lahiru Gamage out of Sri Lanka's West Indies tour

Mathews has had bad luck during tours over the past two years, missing more Tests than he has played - though that was mostly due to injury.

Mathews had been sidelined for five months due to a series of hamstring and calf injuries and was bitterly disappointed when he missed out on Nidahas Trophy.

Along with Mathews, seamer Lahiru Gamage also will return home having fractured his finger while batting during the first Test which the tourists lost by a massive 226 runs. He was determined to make a strong comeback in West Indies but an urgent family requirement has forced him to abandon the tour, an SLC official told Cricbuzz on Wednesday (June 13). Both players made very little contribution to the side following the loss with Mathews scorign just the 11 and 31 in each innings.

Batsman Dasun Shanaka, who last played a Test against Bangladesh in February, and all-rounder Danushka Gunathilaka will be flown out as replacements later on Wednesday - but it is unlikely the duo will be available for the start of the St Lucia Test.

The visitors, though, do have Dhananjaya de Silva and Mahela Udawatte as cover for Mathews, and extra quicks Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando to replace Gamage.
