Kim Jong-un Invites Trump to Pyongyang for Second Round of Summit

North Korean and United States negotiators met in Singapore Monday for final preparations on the eve of an unprecedented summit between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump, seeking to bridge the gaps over Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal.

US President Donald Trump will on Monday hold a meeting with Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, ahead of the historic US-North Korea summit on Tuesday.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Capella Hotel on Singapore's Sentosa Island on Tuesday.

Choi's fiery outburst at Trump's national security adviser, John Bolton, and Vice President Mike Pence a fortnight ago was blamed for Trump suddenly, and briefly, cancelling the summit.

He was driven into the city centre in a stretch Mercedes-Benz limousine accompanied by a convoy of more than 20 vehicles, and later met Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, thanking him for hosting the event.

"The entire world is watching the historic summit between (North Korea) and the United States of America, and thanks to your honest efforts. we were able to complete the preparations for the historic summit", Kim told Lee through an interpreter.

There has been no indication Rodman would be involved in any official talks at the summit, which is aimed at getting North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons and missiles in exchange for economic incentives and security guarantees.

For the US, the term means North Korea relinquishing nuclear weapons - but Pyongyang may agree to do so only if certain conditions are fulfilled, experts warn. "Right now, the level of tariffs on trade in goods around the world is lower than it has been for 150 years", said Adam Posen, president of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, to the Financial Times, "and that is due to the path of US policy over the last 75 years".

Singapore is hosting this year's meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which has seen the US and China jockey for diplomatic influence in recent weeks.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as the summit and the recent positive developments in the Korean Peninsula. Trump has also raised the possibility of further summits and an agreement ending the Korean War by replacing the armistice signed in 1953 with a peace treaty.

UN Security Council Resolution 2270 forbids loaning aircraft, ships and crew to North Korea, but Beijing apparently had USA approval.

It's unclear what Trump and Kim might decide Tuesday.

But the South's Winter Olympics in February were the catalyst for a flurry of diplomatic moves as South Korea's dovish leader Moon Jae-in sought to bring the two sides together, holding two summits of his own with Kim in the Demilitarized Zone that divides Korea. Past nuclear deals have crumbled over North Korea's reluctance to open its doors to outsiders.
