Martial has been linked with a move to Tottenham

The Frenchman left United fans stunned on Wednesday evening when his agent Philippe Lamboley revealed the attacker wants to leave Old Trafford.

Martial was arguably one of the highest performing players at Man United in the first half of the campaign before Jose Mourinho made a decision to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Independent.ie have been told that Tottenham are eager to sign Martial and with United now struggling to find agreement with Spurs in their efforts to sign Belgian centre-back Toby Alderwiereld, the comments from Lamboley could pave the way for a deal that suits both clubs.

Philippe Lamboley told French media that although United want to keep the France worldwide, they have failed to agree on a new contract with the player.

"After considering all possibilities and options, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United", Lamboley explained to RMC Sport.

Manchester United want Anthony to extend his deal and do not want him to leave but we have not reached an agreement for several months.

Martial is under contract for next season and the United also have the option for the 2019-20 season. "However, it is important to remember that he is under contract, Man United have the last word and we will respect the club's decision".

"We do not have the same vision on the future of Anthony".

"He is disappointed because he has shown love for the club and supporters over the last three years. On top of that, I can tell you that without the fans' unconditional support Anthony would have already asked for a transfer", he added. It is important to remember that this season he scored 11 goals and gave 10 assists in five months. Then came the January transfer window.

"I can't say anything at the moment, but clearly, from the moment a player like Anthony is on the market, many clubs are interested. Anthony simply wants to play, rediscover the pleasure of football and the rapport with the coach will be crucial".

"Everyone will have their opinion but I think he needs to resume his career".

There have been reports of major fallouts between Mourinho and Martial in the past.
