The former president has celebrated past birthdays by skydiving near his home in Maine.

George H.W. Bush became the first president to reach 94 Tuesday as he celebrated his birthday in ME with family. Other living former presidents are Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Donald Trump, all 71, and 56-year-old Barack Obama.

Former Democratic President Jimmy Carter isn't far behind, at age 93, and he'll celebrate his 94th on October 1. Gerald Ford died at the age of 93.

Another son, Neil Bush, called on people in a newspaper opinion piece to volunteer and "to become a point of light".

Her daughter-in-law, Margaret Bush, marked the occasion by doing something Barbara Bush enjoyed: She read aloud to young patients at The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

Bush, who has been hospitalized multiple times in the past year for a variety of health issues, was born June 12, 1924.
