President Trump Pushes Back On Immigration, Stands With So-Called ‘Angel Families’

President Donald Trump hosted families who lost loved ones to crimes committed by illegal immigrants.

As part of the effort, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have posted notices in all its facilities advising detained parents who are trying to find or communicate with their children to call a hotline staffed 8 a.m.to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"It is definitely not a solution under any circumstances", said Manoj Govindaiah, director of family detention services at the RAICES advocacy group in Texas.

Wendy Batterson, one of the leaders of San Diego Indivisible, was the first among a roster of speakers that included Democratic congressional members, a teacher, a pediatric nurse and an Iranian refugee.

Trump on Wednesday ordered an end to family separations amid the political backlash it inspired.

The release said that 522 children, who were in the custody of Customes and Border Protection (CBP), had been reunited with their families.

Trump's decision to stop separating families, announced Wednesday after a fierce worldwide outcry, has led to confusion and uncertainty along the border.

"We're going to have strong, very strong borders, but we're going to keep the families together", Trump said at a signing ceremony Wednesday at the White House.

"They don't want to discuss, they don't want to hear, they don't want to see", Trump said. "To be ripped away from your parents as a child is about the most traumatic experience", said Councilman Mark Levine.

"The United States government knows the location of all children in its custody and is working to reunite them with their families", the Health Department said in a statement. "But 89 percent of those who "strongly disapprove" of the job the president is doing say the administration is too aggressive".

Federal immigration courts faced a backlog of more than 700,000 cases in May, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, or TRAC, at Syracuse University. The federal Family Case Management Program - terminated under the Trump administration - compiled a ideal record of attendance by migrants at court hearings, and a 99 percent appearance record at immigration check-ins, according to a 2017 report by the Homeland Security inspector general.

"We're gathered today to hear from the American victims of illegal immigration", he said.

Trump also lashed out at media coverage of the border separations, dismissing "phoney stories of sadness and grief" while asserting the real victims of the nation's immigration crisis are Americans killed by those who cross the border unlawfully.

"It was very hard to see", said Denise Benavides of Dallas, who said she's a member of the League of United Latin American Citizens.

The Port Isabel Service Processing Center in Texas has been set up as the staging ground for the families to be reunited prior to deportation.

Goodwin said she has been inundated with requests from the parents, and the list is still growing.

US President Donald Trump is once again attacking immigrants.

"It is, for all intents and purposes, a prison", said Rep. Jackie Speier, of California.

"Despite President Trump signing an executive order allowing adults to be detained with children after crossing into the United States illegally, the outrage over his administration simply enforcing the law continues", Townhall reported.

Immigration officials have said they could seek up to 15,000 beds in family detention facilities, and the Pentagon is drawing up plans to house as many as 20,000 unaccompanied immigrant children on military bases.
