Facebook might change bits of the feature, like adding more or less time or even permanent muting of words depending on user feedback, however the firm defaults to temporary muting in case users simply forget they've muted a word and then subsequently fail to see all content around a certain topic.

Facebook is testing a new feature that will allow users to block stories containing any keyword from their News Feed. You're just going to have to wait out the 30 days until you can see posts about it again - by which time new ones aren't likely to be made anyway.

The tech is called "Keyword Snooze", according to Facebook's News Feed Product Manager, Shruthi Muraleedharan.

If you're in the test market, to make this work you first to go a post that includes the keyword you want to snooze. Posts from people, pages, or groups containing those keywords will be kept from your feed for 30 days, at which point you could re-Snooze them (via EW). Block the relevant terminology and you won't see a thing. But one could counter that as a private company, Facebook doesn't owe its users a constant undiluted and unfiltered news streaming covering anything and everything. Unlike Twitter, Facebook gives its users no option to mute words permanently, but that may change based on the response to this new feature.

First spotted by Chris Messina and pointed out by TechCrunch, it's a variant of Facebook's option to snooze people and pages you didn't want to see, which was introduced previous year.
