He also reiterated that he got along with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, adding that the two discussed various issues including denuclearization as well as the return of the remains of US troops killed during the Korean War.

The White House has expressed its positivity over USA and North Korea's future proceedings, but has not commented on recent USA intelligence leaks, which have discovered that Kim Jong-un had been actively expanding his nuclear arsenal.

Specifically, the Defense Intelligence Agency has concluded that North Korean officials are exploring ways to deceive Washington about the number of nuclear warheads and missiles, and the types and numbers of facilities they have, believing that the United States is not aware of the full range of their activities.

An analysis of recent satellite photos also indicated that North Korea is completing a major expansion of a factory in the northeast that produces key parts of nuclear-capable missiles, two researchers at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, California, said in a joint post Monday. Kim may want to give up his weapons but the generals may not. Stanford University academics, including nuclear physicist Siegfried Hecker, a leading expert on the North's nuclear program, have proposed a 10-year roadmap for that task; others say it could take less time. Mr Trump's self-professed peace-keeping comes despite reports emerging Kim Jong-un is still developing nuclear weapons as promised, after increased production in nuclear material was discovered across several sites in North Korea.

In a Sunday interview with Fox News, President Trump said North Korea is (quote) "very serious" about denuclearization.

During Pompeo's stay in Pyongyang, there is a possibility of Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon being there, fueling speculation over a possible trilateral meeting among Pompeo, Cho and their North Korean counterpart.

Mr Pompeo's visit follows the historic summit between Kim and President Donald Trump in June.

"Once they started playing, the players showed quick chemistry and I was proud of them", said Lee Moon-kyu, the head coach of South Korea's women's team, who will also lead a combined Koreas team at the Asian Games next month in Indonesia.

As Secretary of State Mike Pompeo prepares to travel this week to North Korea, experts cautioned that the Trump administration's plan to dismantle the North's nuclear weapons and missiles in a year is both unrealistic and risky.

But the administration has framed it as a goodwill gesture to keep negotiations going, with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo telling ABC News the day after the summit that it was about "setting the right conditions for moving forward with" talks.

Evidence collected since the pair's historic meeting points to secret production facilities and the development of methods to conceal weapons creation, implying Pyongyang is aiming to hide plans to continue its nuclear program from the USA, having made contrary, if ambiguous, commitments to Washington.

However, one official pointed out that, despite the assessment, the talks between the USA and North Korea were positive and Kim's decision to destroy a major missile-testing site and suspend nuclear and missile tests were a step forward.

The US and North Korea have expressed different expectations for the pace and sequence of North Korea's disarmament and relief from worldwide sanctions.
