While no deal is imminent, two National Basketball Association officials whose teams have had some level of interest in Marcus Smart are getting a strong sense that he will sign the $6.1 million qualifying offer made by the Celtics and become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019.

However, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, the Celtics are simply waiting for a team to make an offer to Smart so that they can match it, lending credence to the fear opposing teams have that they can't have Smart for themselves no matter what they do.

This would be the Kings' second attempt to sign an RFA to an offer sheet, a relatively rare move in the National Basketball Association. This past season, he averaged 10.2 points, 4.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, and the numbers don't tell the story of his strong defense or leadership. Before saying goodbye, Stevens said he would talk with Smart soon. I always leave everything on the court, every game.

Smart has reportedly been frustrated by his negotiations with the Celtics.

Martin, who saw just five minutes on Friday against the Sixers, then 17 against the Nuggets on Saturday, once again saw an increase in PT as he played 22 against the Hornets. the most of any reserves for the Celtics.

Talking to teams like the Kings and the Nets could get the Celtics' attention. Not only that, but the qualifying offer is the only offer the team has made to him.
