Pep Guardiola admitted prior to the start of the summer transfer window that Manchester City didn't need to make major moves in the transfer market, however the Blues have announced the signing of Riyad Mahrez for a fee of 68 million euros.

The Algeria global, one of Leicester's title-winning heroes from the 2015-16 season, handed in a transfer request in January and had a 10-day absence from the club before returning to training with them on February 9.

Pep Guardiola's City, which won the league by 19 points in May, confirmed Tuesday evening that Mahrez has signed a five-year contract.

'Watching them from afar has been a pleasure.

"Pep is committed to playing attacking football, which is flawless for me, and City's performances last season were outstanding.

I believe my own game can develop under Pep's management".

"Riyad leaves with the best wishes of everybody who has worked with him at Leicester City Football Club".

"Riyad is a hugely talented player", Begiristain told the official Man City website.

City have always been in pursuit of Mahrez, having seen a cash-plus-player offer of £65m for the 27-year-old rejected in January, with Leicester demanding £80m to let him go in the middle of the season.

He was part of the teams that lifted the Championship title in 2014, Premier League title in 2016 and helped the Foxes reach the UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals in 2017.

Mahrez has been linked with a move away from Leicester ever since their remarkable 2015-16 Premier League title win, scoring 12 goals and registering 11 assists in the most recent campaign. "We're sure he will bring additional attacking quality to our squad".

Mahrez - who made 179 appearances for Leicester, scoring 48 times -went on worldwide duty for his country in June and the writing was on the wall when Leicester allowed him extra time off.
