Explosive Trump Interview Adds to Chaos on 1st British Visit

Trump lashes out at NATO allies calling for increase in defence spending

U.S. President Donald Trump holds a news conference after participating in the NATO Summit in Brussels, Belgium July 12, 2018. That's still true today; this year Congress casually flung another $61 billion - roughly enough to pay for free tuition in every public college and university in the country - on top of the already-mountainous military budget.

"So if you go back 10 or 20 years, you'll just add it all up".

Before anyone even arrived in Brussels, Belgium for Day One of the NATO Summit, Trump was already tweeting his allies about not putting up enough money for global defense.

"The communique is clear: it reaffirms the commitment to two per cent (of GDP)", said Macron, who was photographed smiling and sharing a hug with Trump yesterday despite recent tensions between the two.

"The clear message from President Trump is having an impact", he said.

Woody Johnson, the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom, dismissed the significance of the protests, telling Fox News that one of the reasons the two countries are so close "is because we have the freedoms that we've all fought for".

In addition, Wallace said he will ask the Russian president about the summit with Trump and where the two sides stand on contentious issues like NATO, Syria and Ukraine.

Including that commitment, however, Canada's current defence spending plans are only expected to bring it to 1.4 per cent of GDP by 2024 - well short of the Wales target.

When asked if he was going to change his cooperative tone once he's out of the country (as he's been known to do), he replied by referencing one of his greatest hits - "I'm a very stable genius".

Most officials and the invited leaders of non-NATO Afghanistan and Georgia were ushered out.

President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic mounted a charm offensive at the summit, presenting Trump with a Croatian soccer jersey as giving him plenty of attention.

Trump claimed a personal victory at the summit after telling European allies to increase spending or lose Washington's support.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported Trump as saying "I'll do my own thing" if spending is not immediately increased.

Canada is projected to spend 1.23 per cent of its GDP on defence next year, according to a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation report published Tuesday, down from the 1.36 per cent it was projected to spend this year.

The reason is that the 2 percent standard came from a collective defense agreement against a formidable foe (the Soviet Union) that doesn't exist anymore.

Instead, a series of events - a black-tie dinner with business leaders, a meeting with May and an audience with Queen Elizabeth - will happen outside the bustling city, where Mayor Sadiq Khan has been in a verbal battle with Trump.

"I think it's fair to say that here in my office the team recognized what was coming and the importance of speaking out on it from my perspective and from the district's perspective", Curtis told Fox 13.

"Germany is totally controlled by Russia because they will be getting 60-70 percent of their energy from Russia and a new pipeline", Trump said to reporters Wednesday morning, calling the alleged dependence on Russian energy "inappropriate".

Khan, who has often been a target of Trump's ire, backed the protests but said those who want to cause trouble are not welcome.
