USA warns of sanctions risk for firms invested in…

Nord Stream 2 is a pipeline project to transport natural gas from eastern Russian Federation to northern Germany, where it would link up with infrastructure that carries fuel to Western Europe, reported CNBC.

But more than half of U.S. exports go to just three countries - Mexico, South Korea, and China - and the European Commission says less than one percent of Europe's gas come from America. "Germany is totally controlled by Russian Federation, because they will be getting from 60 to 70% of their energy from Russian Federation and a new pipeline", Trump quipped.

Trump told Germany at a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels on Wednesday that it was wrong to support an US$11-billion Baltic Sea pipeline to import even more Russian gas while being slow to meet North Atlantic Treaty Organisation targets for defence spending. There are always other options, the USA secretary said, noting that the parties had held frank discussions on Nord Stream 2.

"We're protecting Germany, we're protecting France, we're protecting all these countries (via Nato). And then numerous of the countries go out and make a pipeline deal with Russian Federation where they're paying billions of dollars into the coffers of Russian Federation".

"We consider that it's a question of economic competition and that ... the buyers must take their own decision", he said.

According to the UralSib expert, the situation that Trump described at the meeting with Stoltenberg on July 11, where Russian Federation contributes 60 to 70% of Germany's presumably gas imports, is only hypothetical.

Earlier, trump criticized the implementation of the "Nord stream - 2". In other words, if the Netherlands is out of the picture, it's quite likely that LNG will enter anyway.

Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic has informed the U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry about the proposal of the EC for correcting the EU gas directive in connection with the discussions on Nord Stream 2. Mr Trump, meeting reporters with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, before a NATO summit in Brussels, said it was "very inappropriate" that the United States was paying for European defence against Russian Federation while Germany, the biggest European economy, was supporting gas deals with Moscow.
