It will be his last.

Chase Utley plans to hold a news conference Friday in Los Angeles to announce that he will retire at the end of the 2018 season, sources told ESPN.

If he doesn't play another game, Utley will finish with over 1,800 hits, 259 home runs, and was hit by a pitch 201 times during his career (eighth-most in the history of the MLB).

After signing a two-year, $2-million deal before the season, Utley has played in 57 games, 30 of them starts, and was batting.231 with a.644 one-base-plus-slugging percentage, one home run and 14 RBIs in 147 plate appearances entering Friday night's game against the Angels.

The 39-year-old second baseman made his name with the Philadelphia Phillies, earning five All-Star berths and winning four Silver Slugger awards. But his role has been reduced from starter in 2016 to platoon player a year ago to part-time starter and pinch-hitter this season. The Phillies traded him to the Dodgers in August 2015 for minor league players Darnell Sweeney and John Richy.

Utley won a World Series with the Phillies in 2008.

During the fabled 2008 season Utley hit.292 with 33 home runs, 41 doubles, and 104 RBI.

Born in nearby Pasadena, Utley played at Long Beach Poly High and UCLA.
