‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ Zsa Zsa dies at 9 years old
Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, Zsa Zsa's owner, called the dog's death "devastating", as reported by Today, July 11. "I'm still in shock", Ms. Brainard said.
At the time, Brainard said in an email to CNN that Zsa Zsa - who has two fur brothers, a pug and a Frenchie - owed her impressive tongue to her nearly horizontal upper teeth and heavily pronounced underbite, which made it hard to keep the pink, fleshy mass in her mouth. The average life expectancy for bulldogs, according to the American Kennel Club, is eight to 10 years. Zsa Zsa's fans even wore shirts with her face on them.
Zsa Zsa gained worldwide attention after winning the 2018 World's Ugliest Dog contest last month, which was held in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Zsa Zsa's winnings included a trophy and $1,500 - a cash amount that was also given to Underdog Rescue, the group that rescued her.
The annual competition started out as a parody of the more traditional pure-breed dog contests.
